This Wednesday the 30th of july MUCSA is proud to be a part of MEGA BBQ! This event is the combination of almost every club that is affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering going all out to welcome everyone back to uni. From 12-2pm you will be able to enjoy food and drink. This event will be one to remember and a great way to kick off the semester!

MUCSA is pleased to announce we have copies of Windows XP and Windows Vista available to any students who have not purchased the respective software with us previously and are studying IT, CS, SE or IS degrees.

Please drop by our office (room 1.18 of the ICT building) to purchase this software. The committee has organised itself to have the office available at scheduled times to distribute software, the times are as follows:
- Mondays between 1pm - 2pm
- Wednesdays between 1pm - 2pm

Monday March 31st, 5.15-6.15pm. ICT Theatre 1 - Tech talk:
MapReduce: Simplified Data Processing on Large Clusters

Anthony Baxter, Google engineer and Python release manager, will be discussing MapReduce, an abstraction developed by Google to process large amounts of raw data in a fraction of the time. The data is so large, it must be distributed across thousands of machines. Anthony will cover how it is used by Google engineers to perform simple computations while hiding the details of parallelization, data distribution, load balancing and fault tolerance for a range of products, from Local Search to Maps and many others.

This Tuesday in partnership with Deloitte we are proud to have the Eclipse team visit. David Samaras, Senior Analyst, Eclipse will take us through a session which covers who Eclipse are and the type of work they have done with clients in the past. This is a great opportunity to find out about industry, ebusiness and how to get a graduate or vacational position with Eclipse.

This Tuesday in partnership with Microsoft we are proud to bring you the launch of Visual Studio 2008 at the University of Melbourne. Guest speaker David Glover from Microsoft will guide us through this developers tool by demonstrating how to rapidly create connected applications with compelling user experiences for Windows Vista, the 2007 Microsoft Office system, mobile devices and the web.
